About Nikodemis

Hi, my name is Nikodemis and I am a green living nut

Rowing the Mngazana River and swamps on the Wild Coast

I love the natural world. Our planet – Earth, with every living creature and natural thing on it – is my number 1 love and passion.

Unfortunately one of the creatures living on this planet – humans – have exploded our population and needy living on this planet so much that we are now in a serious predicament and our very future as a species is threatened.

It’s strange, perhaps poetic justice (where action meets its rightful consequence, or otherwise put, what we reap we sow), that our very own struggles for survival has placed our very survival at risk.

And so my journey towards green living is not only a personal passion but fast becoming a global necessity.

If you want to change the world, start by changing yourself

In the process towards greening my own life, my family’s life, and inspiring more and more people to become more environmentally sustainable in their own lives, I have come across one major thing that probably all agents and advocates of change will tell you: change starts with you.

Change can be a scary thing, it can be time consuming, and it can be expensive. And of course it can be uncomfortable at first. And mostly, it can meet with a lot of resistance from you, your family, friends, community, society, and the world around you.

Personal experience

To make us all feel more comfortable and make the steps towards changing ourselves and our planet more of a group effort than some lonely pilgrimage, I want to share my personal experience of WHAT, WHERE and HOW to go about changing towards a happier, healthier and greener you via this website.

I am not an expert, but I am resourceful and I do like to live life fully, experiencing as many things and as much as possible.

Going Green tools and products

I will keep updating to include all the self-help, other help and generally all around greening tools and products that you may want to choose for your own journey towards a more sustainable life.

Ultimately my life as a human is to be FREE, and this is only possible for me when the choices I make are responsible ones – each choice I make has consequences in the now, and in the future.

My choices thus far…

I am a creative/visual artist who likes to use recycled materials as my medium of choice.

I am a bit of an eco warrior cum environmental activist, a teacher and learner especially in previously disadvantaged contexts, and a true nature fanatic (see some of my art here and my work with communities here. Or some work with little kids here).

Food and energy

My body and brain function best when it is healthy, so I eat healthy. Healthy, for me in a nutshell, is what is natural. The more natural my food intake, the more energy I experience and the more fun I have in my life.

Energy and activity

Mbt in bush

I Iove the outdoors and as often as possible hike South Africa’s awesome mountains and savannas and swim in its beautiful rivers plus explore the stunning wild coastline. I love riding my mountain bike all over with my dogs in tow or horse riding with my daughter.

Keeping fit and strong, in nature’s own gym

But no matter what choices you make for charging your own batteries, my experience (almost 50 years of it – sic) has taught me that nature is my gym, and having fun in it is my workout.

In particular I have found that making exercise part of my daily activities such as riding my bicycle to the shop or on errands instead of my car, planting my own food instead of shopping for it and doing most of my home maintenance myself instead of using contractors, has helped me get physically fitter and stronger each day without the extra effort of having to join a gym, or paying for doctors for medication and check-ups, etc etc.

And of course it has saved me a lot of money too :) .

Attitude is Altitude, so a healthy outlook on life also ensures a happy and healthy body, mind and spirit. Life is balanced firmly between so-called good and bad, positive and negative, ugly and beautiful and the like.

To inspire is to breathe, so getting lots of fresh air and meditating, doing yoga and just remembering to breathe deeply and with intent is of the utmost importance.

Free choice

I am entirely free to choose in each moment if I want to look at a thing, an experience, a person, a situation or whatever as positive or negative. The choices I make have consequences to my attitude, and my attitude creates my state of mind – whether up, or down. Thus how I am feeling, is how I will experience my life, either as a fun time, or as a real bore…

I have a passion for sustainable living solutions, and for creative DIY maintenance and construction. So this site will also take you to the various really cool sustainable living and green lifestyle choices for you, for your family, your home, your business, and your environment.

Making things and life beautiful is my game, and living ecologically friendly in one-ness with nature is my aim. I have 3 beautiful kids and a beautiful partner. Freedom is my lifestyle aim and I am happy to say I live this goal with more integrity each day.

And even though I make choices in each moment, nothing is written in stone and my next choice in the next moment may be even more green, more free, and more FUN! I hope that you will join me on this journey of living life more green, more sustainable, and as I experience more freedom, experience more fun :) .

Please leave your comments on my website, feel free to ask for help on any of the topics or products and services that I link from this site, and I wish you all the best with your journey.

    Hi Niko,

you are right, we do like the same things; it is kinda weird but nice. Sorry I have been out of touch for a while, lots of visits back home to PNG. This year, 2016 brings plenty to do. Hopefully some real goals achieved. (My fingers are crossed)..I wish you and yours best wishes for a brand new year and hope all your dreams start to materialise too.
Thank you for continuing to visit my website. I have not been on the other social media for a while. It cost me a lot of money and time and I did not see much gain. WordPress cost me nothing and I get the traffic, so this year, I want to concentrate on fewer things and ‘make it happen’ so to speak.
Best wishes for your family and thanks for the friendship.

    Hello Nikodemis,

inspired true this web side, we started a waste plastic to diesel project

in West/Africa. After paying 367.500 Rand (75%) for a 1500 L/D Plant to that Company mid September last year, Plant have not been delivered till now. Apart from delaying tactics and 4 pics and a 15 sec. video showing one small plant.

Are you sure the Company you are promoting is credible ?

    Best regards
